Thiruvananthapuram: Southern Railway General Manager Thomas Varghese commissioned the raised and renovated platform and concourse area at Changanassery railway station, constructed at a cost of Rs.21 lakhs, on Sunday. Platform one of railway station has been raised to facilitate easy boarding of coaches and the platform surface has been paved with anti-slip flooring tiles. Station arrival display systems, using Global Positioning System (GPS), introduced in Vanchinad and Jan Shatabdi Expresses would be installed in more AC coaches of other trains. The General Manager said air-conditioned dormitory, plasma screen for train information, coach guidance system and extension of platforms would be taken up at Kottayam railway station this year at a cost of Rs.70 lakhs. Unreserved ticketing system is to be introduced in seven more stations and automatic ticket vending machines will be provided in the Thiruvananthapruam and Ernakulam stations.
