HYDERABAD: The city police on Sunday nabbed a gang of four members led by a schoolteacher on the charge of committing a series of house burglaries.

Gold and silver jewellery, and other valuables worth over Rs. 4.5 lakhs were recovered from the possession of gang leader K. Srinivas (35) of Kalwakurthy in Mahabubnagar district and his associates — Syed Abdul Sattar (34) of Kachiguda, M. Yogender Kumar (26) of Trimulgherry and P. Suresh Reddy (28) of Jeedimetla.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Rajiv Trivedi told reporters here on Sunday that sleuths of Central Crime Station arrested Srinivas, who completed his M.A. (English), in 2005 in connection with a cheating case. He was sent to Chanchalguda jail where he formed a gang with Sattar, Yogender and Suresh.

    Role in six offences

After his release from jail, Srinivas and his associates used to scout for locked houses and strike in the night. The gang was involved in six offences that were reported at Pet Basheerabad, Osmania University, Humayunnagar and Shahinayathgunj police station limits.

The police intercepted Sattar, Yogender and Suresh when they tried to dispose of the stolen jewellery at Begum Bazar. The trio confessed to the crime and based on their information, Srinivas was arrested, the police said.

According to police enquiries, Srinivas set up a school at Kalwakurthy after completing his PG. He allegedly cheated the Andhra Pradesh State Financial Corporation by taking a loan on the pretext of launching a transport business and misused the amount.
