Leaking roof Sir The city central libraries in Mangalore are housed in congested buildings. They have leaky roofs. Some of them are in dilapidated condition. Because of leakage of roof, valuable books are destroyed. The condition of the building housing the Nandigudda Library is bad. The rafters have deteriorated and there is every possibility of valuable books being lost if the roof collapses. I hope the Magalore City Corporation takes up repairs on the building. J.F. D' Souza, Mangalore
Kill stray pigs Sir, Pigs have become a menace at 12th Cross, Manasa Gangothri University Staff Quarters. Complaints to the civic authorities have not elicited any response. The pig owners belong to the neighbouring Vijayashreepura. There is a law that people should rear pigs only 15 km away from residential localities. But this rule is observed more in breach and the civic authorities concerned have not taken any action. The corporation should launch a drive to kill stray pigs and prosecute the guilty owners. M. Jameel Ahmed, Mysore Banking hours Sir, Many banks now work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Saturdays when they work up to 2 p.m. It should be noted by bank customers that the core banking hours, not displayed within the bank premises, are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the rest of the time a skeleton staff work and may not be able to handle all the normal work like issuing a demand draft. Such core banking hours should be displayed within the bank premises so that the customers can adjust their work accordingly. D.B.N. Murthy Bangalore Train to airport Sir, Work on the Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli is in full swing. The much-awaited dream project was off the spotlight after work began six months ago. It is back in limelight with the visit of Tourism and Infrastructure Development Minister B. Sriramulu to the site. Once it becomes operational, it may be hard to cope with road traffic. B.H. Shanmukhappa, Davangere Readers can email letters.mangalore@thehindu.co.in
