Man held for running rail-ticket confirmation racket

Staff Reporter

Used fake request letters of Members of Parliament

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man was arrested near Rail Bhavan by the New Delhi police on Saturday for allegedly getting wait-listed train tickets confirmed by using fake request letters of Members of Parliament. Scores of forged letterheads of at least 20 Members of Parliament were seized from his residence.

Acting on a tip-off that one Kishore Kumar had been getting wait-listed tickets confirmed on the basis of forged request letters of Members of Parliament, the police laid a trap and arrested him from outside Rail Bhavan and recovered six request letters from his person. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he was from Jharkhand and had done Economic (Honours) from Ranchi University.

He was pursuing web designing when he thought of making money by getting wait-listed tickets confirmed. He somehow managed to collect letterheads of at least 20 Members of Parliament and made copies of them using his computer.

Kishore allegedly charged Rs. 150 for confirmation of sleeper class tickets and Rs 200 for AC class tickets. The police recovered a computer, a scanner, a printer and two mobile phones from his Model Town rented accommodation. Efforts are on to find out how many tickets Kishore got confirmed through forged letters.
