Keep it clean This is with reference to the report on dumping of garbage in Tirumanimutharu River. It may be mentioned that public at large are to be made aware of keeping Salem clean by desisting not only from dumping garbage in the river drains, roadsides, but by stopping open air defecation. If a token penalty or punishment is imposed on residents around, it may discourage them. A.V. Subrahmanyam Salem Overbridge The conversion of Salem-Vridhachalam line from MG to BG facilitating direct trains to Tiruchi, Chennai, Bangalore and also to the southern districts is welcomed. As a senior citizen, I appeal to the authorities concerned that road overbridge may be constructed on Cherry Road and Bretts Road near Salem Town Railway Station for free flow of traffic. Raghavan Salem No response My cheque for Rs. 3,900 drawn on Post Office, Sooramangalam, Salem, presented through the State Bank of Mysore, FRC Branch, Salem-4, was returned for the reason "insufficient funds" on June 13, when there was a balance of Rs. 6,591 in my savings bank account. It was a clear deficiency of service. My complaints in this regard to the Superintendent of Post Offices, Salem on June 16, and another one to the Post Master General, Chennai on June 26 have not received any response. These complaints were sent by Certificate of Posting. If the Postal Department is keeping silent over the matter even after the receipt of my complaints, it is implied that they ignore such acts as well as customers' complaints. S Lakshmi Narasimhan, Member, Consumer Voice, Meyyanur, Salem Elephant begging I wish to bring to your attention that a few people at Tirupur near Samundipuram area are often seen with an elephant used for begging. We have watched the stories of people who were killed by elephants. The authorities concerned should stop this before any untoward incident happens. R. Sarawanan Tirupur
