BIJAPUR: Members of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) on Monday staged a protest against what they said intentional delay in opening the new bus terminus in Bijapur. The members, led by SUCI district unit convenor, B. Bhagawan Reddy, blocked the main entrance of the bus stand. They shouted slogans against Ministers and officers of North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC). Addressing them, Mr. Bhagawan Reddy said the new bus terminus had been ready for the past few weeks. However, the inauguration had been put on hold as Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was yet to give time for its formal opening. People were put to inconvenience due to the inordinate delay in commissioning the work and a further delay would only add to it, he said. Referring to the officials' claim that the department was ready to throw open the bus stand for public use any time, he urged them to go ahead with the inauguration. Available infrastructure should not remain inaccessible to the people for political reasons. Let the officials make the new bus terminus operational immediately and hold a formal function by inviting VIPs at a convenient date, he said. He said the existing old bus stand lacked basic amenities such as drinking water and toilets.
