Congress & aam admi

This refers to the editorial `Reclaiming the traditional base' (July 10). While chastising the Congress-led Government for its "official vision grounded in economic reform and bold foreign policy initiatives" and for forgetting the fact that "the aam admi was the [Congress] party's only match winner," the editorial pays compliments to the Congress president for her concern about the sufferings of the poor.

As is known, no Congressman, whether in the Government or outside, does anything without Sonia Gandhi's approval. Moreover Ms. Gandhi herself chose Dr. Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister. She has therefore to share the blame for the acts and omissions of the Government led by him. The "reality check" by her has come too late.

K. Vijayakumar,
Bangalore

A timely editorial. The UPA Government, which had promised the moon to the common man in 2004, is now giving him matti (the earth). The slogan "Congress ke haath aam admi ke saath" is turning out to be false.

M.S.R.A. Srihari,
Khammam, A.P.
