NEW DELHI: Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi stunned Israel's GM Evgeny Postny with black pieces to sign off his campaign in the Greek Team chess championship in Athens in great style on Monday. The 13-year-old whose revised rating in the latest World list stands at 2480 scored 4.5 points from eight rounds. Considering the average rating of his rivals, he stands to gain 16.2 rating points. Also significant is the fact that for the first time, the youngster's rating performance in a competition has touched the 2600-mark. Invited to play on the top board for Patra Club, Parimarjan drew with Greek No. 1 GM Vasilious Kotronias (2601), Polish GM Bartosz (2621), German GM Jan Gustafsson (2589) and Bulgarian International Master Dejan Bojkov (2445) in four outings in five rounds. Parimarjan then lost to Russia's seasoned campaigner Alexei Dreev (2666), but made amends by beating Estonian GM Kaido Kulaots (2550). He drew with Russian GM Ernesto Inarkaev (2625) before stopping Postny (2591). In fact, Postny became his highest-rated opponent to lose with white pieces. The Delhi boy will now have a short training stint with British GM Nigel Short before playing the Politikan Cup in Copenhagen later this month. Special Correspondent
