Staff Reporter

They have been awarded a travel and contingency grant

CHENNAI: The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) has invited two students of MGR Educational and Research Institute, a deemed university in Chennai, to present papers at a symposium on `Optics and Photonics' in August.

The students have not only been selected for presentation, but have also been awarded a travel and contingency grant.

Amit K. Choubey's paper, `DAQ - a complete design,' and Ravi Raushan's paper,`An improved version of DAS,' have been selected for presentation at the symposium.

Amit's paper explores data acquisition systems using reprogrammable platforms. Ravi is a recipient of the `Newport Spectra Physics Award for Excellence in Research' for 2006 from the U.S.

Among the various papers presented by the duo are dissertations on the `Data Acquisition System,' which they presented at a conference in China.

The students hope that the U.S. consulate will issue visas in time to present their papers at the international symposium to be held in San Diego from August 13 to 17.

They say they would not have succeeded in their efforts without the support of the institution's chairman, A.C. Shanmugam; managing director S. Arun Kumar, joint registrar (finance) R. Kalavathy and head of the ECE department E. Kavitha.
