KANNUR: Democratic Indira Congress(Karunakaran) (DIC-K) president K. Muraleedharan said the merger of the party with the Congress was not on the agenda. Addressing the district convention of the DIC(K) here on Monday, Mr. Muraleedharan said the decision about the party's future would be based on the political equations that would emerge then. He said the decision to tie up with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Assembly elections had been taken in the wake of the political clime that existed then. Advising party workers not to be disheartened by the Assembly elections' outcome, Mr. Muraleedharan said bigger parties with a larger mass base had suffered defeat in the elections. He said his party abided by the concept of unity of Left and democratic forces. Instead of opting for an alliance with the DIC(K), the Left parties had gone with the People's Democratic Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, he added. Mr. Muraleedharan said he did not see the enactment on self-financing institutions as an anti-minority measure. He, however, flayed the CPI(M) leadership for publicly accusing prelates and religious leaders on the issue. DIC(K) district president K.C. Kadambooran presided over the function. Those present at the function included party leaders K.P. Kunhikannan and M.P. Gangadharan.
