An attempt to make archery popular

Mysore: It was a different experience for students of De Paul International School here recently. For the students who had only witnessed archery competitions on television were given an opportunity to participate in archery.

The half-a-day introductory programme, organised by the school in association with Rotary Mysore Midtown Adventure Foundation, provided insights into this game not so popular among school-going children in this part of the State.

According to Venkatesh, a student of first PUC at De Paul's, who underwent training, said it was a fantastic experience for students.

A release said that over 200 students of the school participated in the programme, of whom 30 received hands-on experience in archery.

Director (Academics) Ramachandran pointed out that the school would organise many such adventure programmes in the future.

Director (Youth Services) of Rotary Mysore Mid Town Deepak Solanki said that the club intended to introduce archery for people in orphanages and speech and hearing impaired students. R.P Sharma, Inspector-General of Police (Southern Range), has exhorted the students to imbibe good values of life and lead the society by example. He was addressing a large gathering of students, parents and teachers of the school after installing the office-bearers of school prefect council.

He presented the badges and flags to school head boy, head girl and house captains.

Rameez Ghouse (head boy) Steffi Thank Chan (head girl), members of the school prefect council, received the credentials from Mr. Sharma. For school sports, Sandeep Gowda was made captain and Niketha V. Gowda the vice-captain.

Besides, the following students were made captains and vice-captains respectively for different houses: Girish D. Gowda and Namrata S. D' Souza (Red House); Amith M. Gowda and Inam Pangin (Green House); Tiju Babu Antony and Natasha Shekhar (Yellow House) and Basil Cline and Olivia C. Martis (Blue House). Kashiappa Noban was appointed as Band Major during the investiture ceremony.
