THALASSERY: M. Narayani Amma, mother of Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, died at her residence at Kodiyeri near Thalassery on Monday. She was 96. Relatives said the death occurred of old-age-related ailments early in the morning. Wife of late Kunhunni Kurup, a retired schoolteacher, she had been bed-ridden for some time. Narayani Amma is survived by three daughters besides Mr. Balakrishnan. The Minister, who was in Thiruvananthapuram, reached his residence here at around 2 p.m. The cremation would take place on the premises of the ancestral house at 11 p.m.
