NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, and Bharatiya Janata Party chief whip, Sahib Singh Chauhan, on Monday sought intervention of the Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, in nominating a member of the BJP to the Delimitation Commission to re-draw boundaries of the municipal wards and also nominate one member to the Delhi Jal Board. Addressing a press conference, the two leaders said they had met Mr. Joshi along with the party MLAs and had asked him to undo the wrong done to the party. He said the Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, was asked to nominate three MLAs as associate members of the Commission by the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission. The Speaker in turn nominated former Minister Pervez Hashmi and Surinder Pal Singh Bittoo from the Congress. But the nomination of the NCP MLA, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, to the Commission ignoring the claims of the main Opposition party BJP was a matter of regret. ``The BJP strongly opposes this decision of Mr. Prem Singh as NCP is not a recognised party and has a single member in the House. Being the single largest Opposition party, the BJP has the natural right to be nominated to the MCD Delimitation Commission. But it is regretful that it has been kept out intentionally,'' Mr. Mukhi said. Stating that without the BJP nominee the working of the Commission would be rendered meaningless, both Mr. Mukhi and Mr. Chauhan demanded that Mr. Prem Singh revoke the approved list, amend it and incorporate a BJP representative in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition. Similarly, Mr. Mukhi claimed that representatives in the Delhi Jal Board are sent on the basis of their strength in the House. However, for the past two and a half years no legislator from the BJP had been nominated to the Jal Board, he regretted. The two urged Mr. Joshi to intervene and ensure that one of the BJP MLAs was nominated to the Delimitation Commission and also the Jal Board.
