Truckers block highway

Ludhiana: Truck operators on Monday blocked the Delhi-Ludhiana national highway at a busy crossing here in protest against the hike in prices of fuel.

The protestors lifted their half-an-hour long blockade that left rows of stranded vehicles at the Sherpur Chowk only after the local police intervened.

Condemning the price hike, the chairman of the agitating Punjab Truck Operators' Union, Charan Singh Lohara, demanded that the government reduce taxes and duties on fuel instead of increasing the rates.
