KARIMNAGAR: With the postponement of Zilla Parishad chairman elections due to lack of quorum on Monday, both the Congress and the TDP have shifted their respective ZPTC members to `safer' places. Contrary to the expectations of the Congress, the TRS had abstained on the pretext of non-allocation of co-option members' posts to the party. The TRS sought the election of its candidate as Nizamabad ZP chairman before they could extend support to the Karimnagar Congress candidate in the ZP chairman elections. Meantime, after coming to some `compromise formula' with party senior leaders, Congress ZP chairman aspirant A. Laxman Kumar, who staged a walk-out from the Congress camp in the morning, had visited the camp and assured the party of extending total support to official ZP chairman candidate A. Mohan. With the BJP district president and whip of the party P. Sugunakar Rao announcing that their party would not support any party in the ZP chairman elections, the Congress camps are in a jubilant mood. The Congress party leaders are planning to split the TRS ZPTC members and garner their support in the elections if the party high command refuses to compromise with the ZP vice-chairman post offer in the district. On the other hand, TDP ZP chairman candidate Suddala Devaiah said that they would remain in opposition if not elected to power. He said that they had emerged as the single largest party in the ZP by securing 25 ZPTCs with 43 per cent votes. He sought the help of other parties to win the ZP. When reminded that the BJP had decided to adopt neutral stand in the ZP chairperson election, he said that the BJP members had earlier on two occasions extended support to the ruling party in the ZP chairman elections.
