Passengers can now make local/STD/ISD calls while being on the move

CHENNAI:
Reliance Communications has a "Southern interstate Mobile PCO" which works on WLL-FWT technology.
The system has been placed in buses belonging to a private inter-state transport provider. It will enable passengers to make local/STD/ISD calls even while on the move. Reliance Communications network is available in more than 1,600 towns in southern India, including over 700 towns in Tamil Nadu. It is supported by Reliance Infocomm's 80,000 km of terabit fibre optic network and its CDMA 2000 1X EVRC technology.
The mobile PCO helps tourists, especially foreigners, to communicate, thus making huge savings on roaming charges, and also acts as a Vehicle Tracking service (VTS) for the tour operators. Initially, the mobile PCO units have been installed in 100 inter-state buses. Local calls made from the mobile PCO would cost Rs. 2 a minute and national long distance calls Rs. 4 a minute. The international long distance calls would cost from Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 a minute.
