VIJAYAWADA: Drivers, sanitary workers and other staff of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation's vehicle depot went on a flash strike on Monday morning in protest against what they called the `harassment' of drivers through police cases and vehicle checks. They, however, resumed duties in the afternoon following an understanding between union leaders and VMC's senior officials. Union leaders alleged that false police cases were being registered against their members.Depot deputy executive engineer N. Babu Prakash said that there had been complaints of oil pilferage by some drivers for quite sometime and, consequently, inspections were being conducted now and then. Some drivers were not fulfilling their duty of making five to six trips a day as per schedule. They would leave one trip uncovered and the oil thus saved was being sold to unscrupulous elements.
