NEW DELHI: Despite officials claiming that there was no load-shedding in the Capital past 3-30 p.m. on Monday and even prior to that there was load-shedding only of about 150 MW around 11 a.m., large parts of the city continued to reel under long and unscheduled power cuts. While in Kohat Enclave there was no power for around four hours during the day, in Vasant Kunj there was no supply for about three hours. In many of the unauthorised colonies the disruptions lasted up to 10 hours. The situation prompted Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf to review the power availability and supply situation at a high-level meeting that was attended by State Chief Secretary R. Narayansami, Principal Power Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Transco Director (Operations) S.R. Sethi and senior officers of the three distribution companies. During the meeting the Minister said unscheduled load-shedding should be avoided. He also directed the power distribution companies to provide accurate information to consumers and develop a mechanism of fault control to minimise response time. Mr. Yusuf also asked the discoms to deploy their senior officers in all district complaint centres. The Minister said the Chairman of the Central Electricity Authority had gone to Lucknow to speed up completion of Tala transmission lines to enable carriage of 250 - 500 MW power from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa to Delhi at the earliest. He said while 60 MW power supply from silt affected Salal hydel project had been restored, 30 MW power supply from the NTPC gas plant at Dadri and 300 MW from Nathpa Jhakri was expected to be restored by midnight. The restoration of power from these plants would make the situation comfortable, he added. Meanwhile, officials claimed that but for a brief period of about an hour there was no load-shedding for the second consecutive day and the peak demand of 3,100 MW power was fully met.
