NCP leader Chavan dead
MUMBAI:
Rajya Sabha MP and senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Vasant Chavan (64) died here on Tuesday.
He suffered a cardiac arrest during sleep in his room at the old MLAs' hostel, party sources said.
A former Minister, Mr. Chavan is survived by his wife and son.
Born on October 16, 1942 at Deolali camp in Nasik, he was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985.
He was a member of the Council from 1986 to 2004. Since the last three days, Mr. Chavan was in Mumbai to conduct the NCP organisational elections as the Chief Returning Officer.
