Hopes dashed

The launch failure of ISRO's INSAT 4C, the satellite which would have given a boost to Direct-to-Home services (DTH), video transmission and digital satellite news gathering, has been a big blow to the entertainment industry.

Many news and entertainment television channels had booked the powerful Ku band transponders of INSAT 4C. The future plans of Sun TV, which had booked some six transponders for launching its DTH platform, is said to be the worst hit.

Among other news channels, Kairali channel too had booked a transponder for its digital satellite news gathering services, which now could be delayed indefinitely.
