CHENNAI: Highways Minister M.P. Saminathan on Tuesday said the first phase of road upgradation of the Information Technology corridor from the Madhya Kailash temple in Adyar to Taramani-Velachery road junction would be completed by September.

The total stretch of the corridor from the temple to Siruseri was 20 km.

There was "quick progress" in the execution of the first phase. Work from 14th km to 20th km was also in progress.

In view of litigation over acquisition of six or seven km of land, work could not be taken up in the stretch.

Most of the cases had gone in favour of the Government, he said.

Inspection

Earlier, Mr. Saminathan inspected the progress of the project along with Highways Secretary K. Allaudin and Tamil Nadu Road Development Company's Chief Executive Officer Rohit Modi.

Estimated to cost Rs. 205 crore, the six-lane upgradation work would be completed by June 2007. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was particular that the project be completed expeditiously, he said. The proposal to get back 38 acres in Guindy from Anna University had been brought to the Chief Minister's notice.

It was planned to re-locate the Highways Research Station there. Work on the southern extension of Inner Ring Road from Velachery to Grand Southern Trunk Road would begin shortly, he said.
