Rupee declines further

MUMBAI: The rupee continued to fall against the dollar due to increased dollar demand from corporates and oil PSUs and closed lower at 46.1650/1750.

In active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market here, the Indian unit opened sharply lower against the dollar at 46.19/21 against the previous close of 46.1350/1450.

Later, it improved marginally and closed at 46.1650/1750, still lower than the previous close, according to dealers.

Dealers attributed the early weakness in the rupee to heavy dollar demand by both corporates and oil PSUs for import purpose. — PTI
