Tax collections up 19 p.c.

NEW DELHI: The Centre has mopped up Rs. 43,199 crore through indirect taxes (excluding services tax) during the first quarter of the current fiscal, an increase of 18.5 per cent over collections in April-June 2005. Excise duty accounted for Rs. 23,560 crore and customs duty for Rs. 19,638 crore.
