LAUDABLE WORK: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with prominent Indian-Americans at an Inaugural Unity Luncheon in Washington on Tuesday.

Washington: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice paid rich tributes to the Indian-American community which, she said, has contributed to the "intellectual capital of American universities," and "by dint of its hard work, not only added to the wealth of our nation, but also to the character of our country."

Addressing a luncheon meeting of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and the Asian-American Hotel Owners Association here on Monday, Ms. Rice said, "Indian-Americans are nurturing dreams for a better life and they're working hard while playing by the rules and share their successes with people who are less fortunate than themselves. And in doing so, they are making America more American."

Ms. Rice said: "I know that many of you first came to the U.S. perhaps as students and you chose to remain here: to live and to work and to raise your families.'' — UNI
