GUNTUR: Students staged a dharna in front of the office of Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) Campus College Principal M.K. Durga Prasad on Tuesday against the alleged apathy of officials in providing proper facilities in hostels. The students demanded freedom in the selection of their roommates. They also wanted regular mess facilities ensured. The flash point of the whole issue was when 80 students found that there was no food in the canteen though officials had given them tokens. "It is the fault of the officials. They have failed to inform the canteen staff about the food arrangements for students," alleged a protester. The canteen staff said that they were instructed to prepare food for only 30 students. The Principal said that repair works were going on in a few hostels. "We have initially agreed to accommodate students in the hostels on first-come-first-served basis. But now, student leaders are demanding that they be given the freedom to choose their roommates," he said. Systematic arrangements were being made to open the mess on the campus in the next few days and issue proper identity cards to students, Prof. Durga Prasad said.
