Staff Correspondent

`There are over 100 NGOs in the district. Of them, 46 receive over Rs. 10 crore as overseas grants'

Bidar: "There is no dearth of funds for social service activities in Bidar district. Service organisations need to use them judiciously to improve quality of life in this backward region," Superintendent of Police D. Roopa said in Bidar on Sunday.

"There are over 100 NGOs in the district. Of them, 46 receive over Rs. 10 crore as overseas grants. If this money is spent with good intentions, then a lot of projects such as rainwater harvesting, formation of self-help groups, and entrepreneurship development can be taken up," she said.

She was speaking at the installation ceremony of the office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Bidar Fort and Rotary Club New Century.

She said that community service organisations needed to work with the government to achieve success. She recalled successful polio eradication programmes taken up jointly by the Government and service organisations such as the Rotary International.

Earlier, Donald Johnson took oath as the president and Somnath Gangashetty as secretary of the Fort Club.

Rajshekar Sedamkar took oath as the president and Raghu Krishnamurthy as the secretary of the New Century Club.
