VOICE OF DISSENT: Police arresting members of the Kannada Sainya who were staging a rasta roko in front of the Gulbarga City Corporation on Tuesday.
GULBARGA: Members of the Kannada Sainya courted arrest on Tuesday in protest against the transfer of Commissioner of the Gulbarga City Corporation S.P. Mudhol. Volunteers of the sainya led by its president Somnath Kattimani, who came in a procession to the administrative office of the city corporation, staged a rasta roko in front of the administrative office raising slogans against the government for transferring Mr. Mudhol "who was streamlining the working of the corporation after his posting" here last year. Tension prevailed in the locality for some time after the Sainya volunteers insisted that the Deputy Commissioner reach the spot to accept their memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. However, the Deputy Commissioner, who was in a meeting, sent a word to the protesters to come to his office to submit the memorandum. However, the Sainya members preferred to court arrest than visiting Deputy Commissioner's office to present their memorandum. The arrested members were later released by the police.
