Aceh granted autonomy

JAKARTA: Indonesian Parliament on Tuesday passed a law granting autonomy for Aceh province, paving the way for the provincial election and giving the province greater control over most of its oil and natural gas.

Under the law, the local Government will enjoy 70 per cent of the revenues from the province's huge natural reserves.

There would be a two-month campaign to disseminate information to the people about the law, Indonesian Home Affairs Minister Muh Ma'ruf said.

Acehnese were also allowed to establish local political parties, according to the law. — Xinhua
