State police

put on alert

BANGALORE: The State police have been put on alert following the blasts in railway stations in Mumbai.

Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari said all districts had been alerted. Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police have been asked to keep watch on the movements of anti-social elements and make preventive arrests, if necessary. Policemen will be deployed in public places such as railway stations and bus stations, he said.

Bangalore Police Commissioner Neelam Achut Rao said the city police would deploy extra striking force units. Security will be tightened in railway and bus stations. — Staff Reporter

Notification issued

on probe panel

BANGALORE: The Government has issued a notification on the constitution of a Commission of Inquiry to go into the various aspects of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M.P. Prakash told the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that the Government had issued the notification appointing the former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court B.C. Patel to head the commission.

The commission has been given two months' time to submit a report to the Government. — Special Correspondent

BJP's directive

to State unit

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has advised its Karnataka unit and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to sort out the matter related to the bribery allegation made against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy by a BJP MLC.

BJP Spokesman Arun Jaitley said the party had gone through the reports of the allegation attributed to a BJP MLC and found that there had been "misinterpretation" in the reports. ``The State party and the Deputy Chief Minister are on the job to sort out the issue, and the BJP hopes that things will be sorted out," he said. — UNI

Angioplasty to be covered by Yeshasvini

Bangalore: Angioplasty procedure will now be covered by the Yeshasvini insurance scheme for the rural population. This came into effect from July 1, an official press note said.

The Yeshasvini Trust meeting held recently decided to extend the insurance coverage to day-to-day problems such as dog and snake bites, injuries inflicted by cattle, electric shocks and injuries sustained while operating agricultural implements. Normal delivery and neonatal care are also covered. — Special Correspondent

Recognition

for KSRTC

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has won the runner-up award for the least number road accidents in 2004-05 (in the moffusil sector). The award is given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The award was presented on July 7 in New Delhi at the fifth annual conference of the All-India State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU). The KSRTC is winning the award for the fourth time, said a KSRTC press release. — Staff Reporter

Upendra Tripathy is ASRTU vice-president

Bangalore: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation Managing Director Upendra Tripathy has been elected vice-president of the All-India State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU), the apex body of State road transport undertakings. The Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is the president of the ASRTU. — Staff Reporter
