Four months, four years

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Known for his wit and humour, the Janata Dal (United) member M.P. Nadagouda raised eyebrows in the Legislative Council on Tuesday with his comments on the Rs. 150-crore bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Intervening during the arguments on whether the Chair should allow an adjournment motion on the issue, Dr. Nadagouda asked whether a government that had been in office for only four months could attract an allegation "worth Rs. 150 crore." He continued, "Then what should have been or would have been the worth of an allegation against a government that ruled the State for over four years."

He said there was no point in the Congress demand for a CBI inquiry into the allegation. The Government should order one keeping in mind the fact that illegal mining had been going on in Bellary district for years.
