Commemorative stamp on first girls school in Delhi

CHENNAI:
The Department of Posts is releasing a commemorative postage stamp on Indraprastha Girls' School, in the denomination of Rs.5 on Saturday.
In the late 19th and early 20th century, modern education was yet to reach the women of India, when a small band of enthusiasts decided to establish a school in Old Delhi on May 21, 1904. The first school for girls in Delhi, Indraprastha Girls' School, had just seven students on its rolls. Lala Jugal Kishore, an executive in a British firm, was the foremost of the founders who went from house to house to collect funds and convince hesitant parents to send their daughters to school. Stamps, first day covers and information sheets will be available at all Philatelic Bureaux or Philatelic Counters.
