Ramanathapuram: In the third such incident in a month, two Tamil Nadu fishermen were injured when the Sri Lankan Navy fire at them on Monday. Four fishermen from Rameswaram had set sail ina mechanised boat. They said a Sri Lankan Navy boat approached them during the wee hours of Tuesday near Katchatheevu and opened fire.Raja (40), son of Muthu of Enmanamkondan, near Uchipuli, and Jhonson (30), son of Siluvai Irudhayam, of Pampan, were injured. Following this, Nageswaran and Suresh, the other fishermen, brought them ashore. Jhonson was treated as an outpatient at Rameswaram Government Hospital. Raja was admitted to Government Hospital here and later referred to Madurai Rajaji Hospital. A bullet had penetrated his right hand. "Immediately after the Sri Lankan Navy personnel warned us to return, we started drawing the net. But, without giving us ample time, they fired at our boat," said Raja. Collector K.S. Muthuswamy told The Hindu that he would convene a meeting to advise fishermen on the do's and don'ts, while fishing. Fisheries officials were directed to instruct fishermen not to cross the International Maritime Boundary Line.
