Thiruvananthapuram: The State police have sounded a `general alert' in the wake of the bomb explosions that claimed several lives in Mumbai on Tuesday evening. A senior police official said a communication to be watchful had been issued to all district police Superintendents and Commissioners of Police. Security has been stepped up in railway stations, bus stands and airports. The police intensified patrolling in communally sensitive areas. Vigilance has also been stepped up along Kerala's coastline.
Control rooms opened
The State Government has opened two control rooms for providing information on Keralites residing in Mumbai. The Control Room numbers are 0471-2332416, 0471-2332452 and 0471-2326263 (fax). The Government has also started control rooms in Mumbai and New Delhi. The numbers are 022-2367591 and 9895637400 (mobile) in Mumbai. The New Delhi control room numbers are 011-23384369, 011-23384373 and 9810126443. Two other telephone numbers from which information could be obtained are 022-2788008 and 09833449785. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan convened a meeting of Ministers and high-level officials on Tuesday night. Mr. Achuthanandan ordered to take all necessary steps to help Keralites in Mumbai. He also asked the police to step up security in the State. The NORKA ROOTs has also opened a control room here.
