Coimbatore: Two students of an engineering college were killed on the spot when the two-wheeler on which they were travelling was knocked down by a mini-lorry near Malumichampatti on Coimbatore - Pollachi Road on Tuesday morning.
On way to college
The two girls were on their way to the college from Peelamedu when the speeding lorry laden with bricks hit the vehicle. According to the police, the mini-lorry on its way to Pollachi is said to have hit a car and after pushing the car into a gorge, it lost control and hit the two-wheeler. The deceased have been identified as Samyuktha (19), daughter of a former Deputy Superintendent of Police from Attur in Salem district and Raja Rajeswari (19) from Gobichettipalayam in Erode district.
Students throng hospital
On hearing the news, students of the private engineering college thronged the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where the bodies were brought for post-mortem. The police have taken the lorry driver into custody.
