12 hurt in clash

VIZIANAGARAM: 12 persons were injured, two of them seriously, in a clash between two groups at Kottam in S. Kota mandal on Tuesday afternoon. According to the police, a minor issue between two drivers led to clash between groups belonging to them. The two seriously injured were admitted to KGH in Visakhapatnam. - Correspondent

Farmer commits suicide

ANANTAPUR: A farmer of Cholasamudram village committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Tuesday, unable to repay the debts he had incurred. According to the police Hanumanth (35) owned two-and-half acres and had also cultivated 10 acres taken on lease from other farmers. But, he had suffered heavy losses over the past few years. - Staff Reporter

Teachers' plea

Plea to extend deadline

Hyderabad: The AP Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union has urged Director, School Education, to extend the last date for submitting DSC applications by a week. B. Mohan Reddy, president, and P.L. HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Sheep and Goat-Rearers' Association on Tuesday demanded scrapping of proposed closure of the AP Backward Classes Cooperative Finance Corporation, as part of the third phase of reforms. P. Jamalayya, secretary, in a statement issued here opposed it, saying such a step would deprive artisans of State assistance. - Special Correspondent

YSR launches website

HYDERABAD: A portal on Right to Information - www.r2inet.org developed by the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) has been inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. A press release said the portal was aimed at bringing key stakeholders on the Right to Information on a platform where they could access information, download tools and guides, share best practices and experiences and build lasting networks.

Lecturers threaten

agitation

HYDERABAD: Aided degree college lecturers on Tuesday threatened to launch an agitation if the Government failed to release salary budget as they had been working without pay for the last two months. N. Purnachandra Rao, chairman, and M.Yadagiri, general secretary, AP Aided Degree College Lecturers' Association, in a statement here condemned the delay in budget release which resulted in non-payment of May salary. - Special Correspondent

CPI condemns defection

HYDERABAD: The CPI State Council has condemned the `defection' for Anantapur zilla parishad posts and termed them undemocratic actions. K.
