BJP asks State to halt land transfer

Asks Government to check if allotted lands are put to assigned use

HYDERABAD: BJP leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has asked the State Government to immediately halt the transfer of assigned lands to business enterprises at throwaway prices by issuing an ordinance or other legislative measures.

He wanted the Government to constitute a wing to verify whether the lands allotted to the enterprises had been put to proper use and initiate steps to recover the land wherever it had been converted to real estate. "The Government will not have any land left if it does not stop alienating assigned lands to business people," Mr. Rao said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said a majority of business establishments around the city were set up on assigned lands without the poor getting any benefits.

"While sections such as ryots, sheep rearers and others who contribute to the growth of the economy should be benefited, the Government, HUDA and APIIC are acting as brokers to transfer lands to business establishments," he said.

`Enemy property'

The Government should, forthwith, take steps to make the landowners shareholders in the companies to which the land had been allotted, he said. Citing instances of `enemy property' (property owned by residents of Pakistan and China) being acquired by the Government, he said the State had no right on such property as it was entirely under the purview of the Centre.

Referring to instances such as the single judge verdict on the panchayat raj elections, Mr. Rao wanted the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the modalities to ensure that the judiciary, legislature and executive did not exceed their limits in making comments against one another.
