HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has charged the ruling party with replicating Anantapur Zilla Parishad-type subversion of the election process in several Mandal Parishad President elections across the State on Tuesday. The party, accepting the challenge thrown by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said it was in possession of proof of Dr. Reddy calling up the TDP leaders in Ranga Reddy from the mobile phone of the DCC president. It wanted the State Election Commissioner to prove his sincerity by cancelling the ZP elections in Anantapur. Irregularities
Addressing a press conference, TDP leaders K. Vijayarama Rao and A. Raj Kumar said several irregularities had been committed by presiding officers at the instance of Ministers and Congress MLAs. They came up with five instances to substantiate their charges.
Irregularity alleged
In Singanamala mandal parishad in Anantapur, the presiding officer allegedly illegally conducted the special meeting without quorum and declared the minority Congress members elected to various posts. In Jeelugumilli of West Godavari, though Section 144 was in force, the DCC president and his supporters allegedly prevented TDP members from entering meeting hall. They alleged that the Asifabad Revenue Divisional Officer entered the meeting hall of Bejjur mandal in Adilabad and threatened the TDP members into voting in favour of Congress.
Illegally adjourned
In Peddapuram of East Godavari, the presiding officer allowed Peeta Appanna who had resigned as TDP member to participate in the meeting. n Karlapalem in Guntur, where TDP and Congress had seven members each, the meeting was illegally adjourned to help the latter. All these instances had gone to the notice of the State Election Commissioner but no action had been taken, they said.
