CHENNAI: The city police went on high alert following the serial blasts in Mumbai's local trains on Tuesday. Police said security had been tightened at the Chennai Central and Egmore railway stations following news of the blasts in Mumbai and the grenade explosions in Srinagar. Officers said adequate security had been provided at the railway stations following the terror attacks. Policemen have been posted at the VIP entrance, Walltax Road Gate, Moore Market Complex (MMC) Gate and Parcel Office of the Chennai Central Station to check those entering the station. The Government Railway Police (GRP), along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), carried out checks at Central station. Metal detectors were installed at the Moore Market complex and the police made physical checks of the trains scheduled for departure. Passengers were also screened, police said.Checks were also carried out at the railway parcel office. Security was also strengthened at the Koyambedu bus terminal and at other vantage points.AtTambaram, armed policemen and sniffer dogs patrolled the railway station.
