Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Surapet, Maduramettupalayam, Puthagaram, Madhanakuppam, Shanmugapuram, Indira Nagar and Bharathidasan Nagar on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance work. Power supply will also be suspended in SAF Games Village, CMBT, Athipet Industrial Estate, Vanagaram Road and parts of Ambattur, some parts of Triplicane and Royapettah including T.H. Road and Big Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

New postal services

New services such as speed post delivery and Western Union money transfer have been introduced in Arumbakkam post office. For details, call 23630800.

Club to adopt school

Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel plans to adopt Government Higher Secondary School, Okkiyam - Thoraipakkam, for its community service project for the year. A tie-up with a sister club in the U.S. to install a talking computer and Braille computer at a teaching centre for the visually-challenged is also on the cards. N. Srinivasan, managing director of Pillai and Sons, is the club's new president.

Yoga classes

A free one-month course on yoga will be organised at Satyananda Yoga Centre from July 16 at Bala Vidya School in Vasudevapuram in West Mambalam. Classes are from 5.30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Call 94440 01410 or 24746974 for details.

Seminar on interviews

Leadership training

The NSS unit of DRBCCC Hindu College recently organised a leadership training workshop. Students were urged to use role models as inspiration towards greatness. A session on human rights was also held.

Devotional lecture

The Mylapore Fine Arts Club will hold a lecture series on the Mahabaratham by Nagai Mukundan from July 16 - 20 at 7 p.m. daily. The lecture is a combination of Villibaratham and poet Vali's Pandavar Bhoomi.

Teachers' Day

Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mannivakkam, celebrated Vyasa pooja as Teachers' Day. Chengalpet district educational officer Lakshmanan gave away prizes and souvenirs to teachers.

Alumni association formed

A group of former students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Air Force Station, Avadi have started an alumni association to bring all the former students together. The idea is to bring former students together. With a number of former students leading a successful career, the members can share their experiences with the students. Former students of KVAFS, Avadi, who want to enlist can contact V.M.
