Prevention is better than cure

ENVIRONMENTALISTS ARE all praise for computer giant Dell for offering to remove potentially hazardous chemicals from the computers it makes. The company has taken this decision in support of its "Chemical Use Policy". Under the policy, no flame retardant chemicals are to be used by 2009. Bangalore's environmentalist and filmmaker Suresh Heblikar has welcomed this move by Dell. Mr. Heblikar has said that such initiatives would help reduce the e-waste problem looming large over Bangalore. While the proper disposal of hazardous waste is essential, preventing them in the first place is even better, he has said.
