BANGALORE: Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao on Tuesday said that the city police in the past two weeks arrested 49 persons and solved 45 cases of theft and robbery. The police, he said, had recovered property worth Rs. 80 lakh, which included Rs. 10 lakh in cash, gold and silver articles, and computers. Among the recovered material include a 100-year-old panchaloha idol, said to have been stolen from Tamil Nadu. The police have also recovered idols stolen from Raghavendra Math in Hanumanthanagar here, Mr. Rao said.
Laptops recovered
The Chickpet police have arrested five persons allegedly involved in lifting laptops of passengers travelling in private buses to places such as Mumbai and New Delhi from Kalasipalyam and Upparpet. The police have recovered six laptops worth Rs. 4.5 lakh and solved 15 cases, which cases registered in Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Chennai. The accused, Mohammed Iliyas, Irfan, Abdul Sattar, Ibsal Rehman, all from Mumbai, were selling the laptops to Jabeer, who has also been arrested.
One arrested
The High Grounds police, on the basis of a video footage of a marriage, arrested Nasir Ahmed (23) on charges of stealing jewellerry worth Rs. 10 lakh from the marriage hall.
