HYDERABAD: Slowly but surely, nightlife is increasing in the city and in tune with it, the city region of APSRTC has increased night services this year. The main objective behind augmenting night services is to provide assured and safe transportation for public. These buses will ply up to 1 a.m. on main routes beginning their operations on shift basis from 10 p.m.
More buses
They will halt at main centres like Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Mahatma Gandhi Bus station, Rathifile and Central Bus station without returning to depots thereby saving time and fuel. As many as 230 more buses have been pressed into service this year as apart of the programme taking the tally to 380. "It's a bonus all the way for both passengers and the RTC. While passengers can be assured of services at odd hours, productivity will go up for the Corporation," according to RTC City Regional Manager C. Panduranga Murthy. Night services were launched in the city two years ago with 150 buses operating up to 11 p.m. and returning to the respective depots. But following a lukewarm response, services were being operated perfunctorily. "However, the increase in nightlife, especially with the emergence of call centres and software and hotel industry, has necessitated more city buses during night," he says. There will be no need of extra crew for these services as they would be operated on shift basis and there are plans to extend the services to other localities too, he adds.
