Thiruvananthapuram: The Internet-based seat allotment process for engineering and medical colleges in the State entered its second day on Tuesday with thousands of students more logging on to the designated website to submit options for various courses. According to officials of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), as many as 12,376 students had logged on by 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday and the total number of options submitted by students till that time stood at 5,13,510. Even though the guidance and facilitation centres and the helpdesks set up across the State to help students with no access to computers and the Internet will officially open only on Wednesday morning, hundreds of students across the State visited these centres on Tuesday to register their course-college options online. While students visiting the facilitation centres can seek the help of officials to register their options, those visiting the helpdesks will only be provided with a computer and Net connection. According to the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), each facilitation centre and helpdesk has been asked to provide sufficient number of computers - 30 computers was the figure suggested by the CEE's office - to the students. Meanwhile, in order to ensure smooth flow of data to and from the NIC's central data centre here that hosts the website, the bandwidth of the line linking the Centre to the Net was increased to 8 mbps on Tuesday.
