Security tightened in city

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Security in Kochi has been tightened in the wake of Tuesday's serial blasts in Mumbai.

City Police Commissioner P. Vijayan said dog squads and the bomb-detection squad have been pressed into service in railway stations and bus stands. Vital installations have been put on alert. Checking of vehicles has been intensified. More police personnel, including men from the Armed Reserve Police, have been posted in the city.

Red-alert at airport

The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery has also been put on high alert. Security agencies have been asked to maintain tight vigil. Visitors' entry into terminals on Wednesday has been banned.

Two Quick Reaction Teams comprising highly-trained commandos are on the standby to face any emergency, CISF Commandant K.C. Suresh Kumar said.
