NEW DELHI: A red alert was sounded in the capital in the wake of a series of high-intensity blasts in Mumbai on Tuesday. Delhi Police Commissioner K.K. Paul directed the Deputy Commissioners of Police of all the districts to conduct surprise checks at hotels and guesthouses, particularly those located in the Walled City, Okhla, Nizamuddin and New Friends Colony areas. "We have also been asked to carry out searches at all the busy markets, cinema halls, malls and religious places," said a senior police officer. Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads were pressed into action to carry out preventive checks at vital installations. Security personnel posted at railways stations were directed to keep a close watch on suspicious movements. The police in coordination with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also conducted checks at all the Metro stations. They were directed to properly frisk each passenger before allowing them in. Security at Indira Gandhi International Airport was also tightened. Deployment at vital installations was enhanced and patrolling intensified in security sensitive areas. Meanwhile, the Special Cell was put on alert to check if there was any suspicious movement in any part of the capital. Senior police officers remained in touch with their Mumbai counterparts to share details and intelligence in connection with the blasts.
