Centre's stand

NEW DELHI: Alleging that the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre deliberately took a weak plea of violation of "archival Central Civil Services Conduct Rule" as the basis for the proposed dismissal of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Venugopal, the Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities has said "the Government should have instead taken a serious view of his role in the anti-reservation agitation".

Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities convenor Vikas Bajpai said: "These acts on the part of the Government put a question mark over its commitment towards upholding the Constitutional provision for reservations. We have decided to prepare a detailed account of the ways in which Dr. Venugopal abetted and supported the anti-reservation agitation that has led to deepening of caste tensions and divisions at AIIMS. This will be distributed to all the MPs before the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament."
