dated July 13, 1956: Communist Party move

The election programme of the Indian Communist Party, announced in New Delhi on July 11, envisages a serious effort to bring together all the Leftist parties in the country, including the Socialist and Praja Socialist parties on the basis of a mutually agreed minimum programme. The party's Central Committee, which has been deliberating in Delhi for the last ten days, has appointed a Parliamentary Board for the purpose of negotiating with other parties. In an appeal for unity of the Leftist groups, the Communist Party has emphasised that success in the struggle against the Congress can be ensured only if this unity could be achieved. According to a communiqué issued by the party office the functions of the Parliamentary Board will be to negotiate with other parties and to keep in contact with the Election Commission and with the States. The members of the Board are: Mr. A.K. Gopalan (Chairman), Mr. S.A. Dange, Mr. Bhupesh Gupta, Mr. P. Ramamurthy, Mr. Ajoy Ghosh, Mr. P. Sundarayya, Dr. Z.A. Ahmad, Mr. B.T. Ranadive, Mr. P.C. Joshi, Mr. Sohan Singh Joshi and Mr. E.M.S. Namboodiripad. Mr. Ranadive and Mr. Joshi are former General Secretaries of the party.
