dated July 13, 1956: Supreme Soviet meet

Marshal Nikolai Bulganin, the Soviet Prime Minister, said in Moscow on July 11 that the Communist Party policy on the cult of the individual has been "welcomed and supported by our people fully and entirely." Addressing a joint session of the two Houses of the Supreme Soviet, Russia's Parliament, Marshal Bulganin said the enemies of Communism and Socialism had been striving to misrepresent the party's policy and shake the working people's faith in the Soviet Union. "The imperialists have taken as an excuse for their campaign of slander the consistent fight conducted by our party against the cult of the individual and its consequences." In his 70-minute speech, Marshal Bulganin touched briefly on other domestic problems and foreign affairs. Among the guests at the joint session were the Shah of Iran and Queen Soroya - the first reigning monarch ever to attend a session of the Supreme Soviet - and Marshal Kim II Sung, the North Korean Prime Minister.
