Putting Shakespeare in an Indian context

KOCHI: Chavara Cultural Centre and Globe Theatre will jointly present a play that present William Shakespeare in a new light.

The play, To Be or To Be will be presented at the Fine Arts Hall on July 14 at 6.30 p.m.The play is about a literary critic named Sivadas Gupta trying to analyse works of Shakespeare in an Indian perspective. The Bard of Avon is also a character in the play. The play is written and directed by Ponnans Kadavanthra. Incidentally, the Globe Theatre that is staging the play along with Chavara Cultural Centre is based in the city and not related to its original namesake.

Corporation Deputy Mayor C.K. Manisankar will inaugurate the play.
