THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The uncertainties over the fee in self-financing professional colleges in the State should be cleared forthwith, the All India Students' Federation (AISF) has demanded. A press note issued by AISF State president K.S. Arun said the recent official declaration that the fee in self-financing colleges may be revised by 15 per cent after discussions with the managements once the counselling is over, has created much confusion. Students seeking admission should be fully aware of the fee for different courses. Drastic changes in fee once classes have begun will have grave consequences. A similar decision taken by the previous UDF Government enabled managements to send away hundreds of students from their colleges, the press note said. The move to allow an opportunity to the managements to negotiate fee after the completion of admissions should be abandoned. It is ironical that a student who gets admitted in the merit seat and another who gets a management seat must pay the same fee; that of the K.T. Thomas committee. It is cruel not to recognise the talent of a student who secured a top rank by dint of hard work. To avoid such a situation the Government should institute scholarships for students who get admitted in merit seats so that such students need only pay a fee lower than that charged for a management seat, the press note said.
